The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to enhance the convenience for public transport users have joined hands to allow the use of “Delhi Metro Smart Card” in DTC buses. Now, the Delhi Metro Smart Card can be used to pay for tickets in all types of DTC buses. This integration will provide a cashless and hassle-free free travel experience for millions of commuters which is a significant step towards the payment system in the capital.
Key Benefits of Integration
Delhi Metro Smart Card is now merged with the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) system, which promotes a unified and digital payment solution for various modes of public transport. Passengers using the Smart Card on DTC buses will also enjoy a 10% discount on fares, making it a cost-effective option for daily commuters.
To facilitate this transition, DTC has installed Electronic Ticketing Machines (ETMs) on its buses, which allow passengers to use their Smart Card for automated ticket payments. The current system has been successfully tested on buses operating from Rajghat and Hasanpur depots, with plans to expand citywide in the coming months.
Ticketing through the Delhi Metro Smart Card is now possible at the electronic validators installed in DTC buses. The fare will be automatically deducted from the card balance, eliminating the need for carrying cash or purchasing separate tickets.
Finally
Through this initiative the dependency on cash decreases while the operational efficiency of public transport increases in Delhi. By enabling a single smart card for both metro and bus travel, it aims to encourage more people to opt for public transport, and thereby reducing traffic congestion and pollution in the city.
